The TLM 103 is a large-diaphragm microphone for professional and semi-professional use when maximum quality is required on a limited budget. Utilising design features proven in other Neumann microphones, the TLM 103 achieves unprecedentedly low self-noise at high SPL. The microphone capsule, derived from the U 87, has a cardioid directional characteristic, is acoustically balanced and achieves high attenuation of the rear sound. The K 103 capsule used is based on the K 87 type, known from the U 67 and U 87 microphones. It has a flat frequency curve up to 5 kHz, with a 4 dB lift at this frequency. The abbreviation TLM stands for “transformerless microphone”. In this technology, the conventional output transformer is replaced by an electronic circuit, preventing high-frequency interference and other disturbing phenomena. The entire internal structure is flexibly mounted to eliminate noise. The frequency range starts below 20 Hz and therefore even low bass frequencies are picked up by the microphone without colouring the sound. For this reason, it is recommended to use the WS 87 wind protection or the PS 15 / PS 20 pop filter.
