The Tilta 80 mm Cinema adapter ring puts the Tilta Mirage matte box on a compact cine lens with an 80 mm front diameter. Unlike the rings for photo lenses it does not screw into a filter thread — it clamps straight onto the lens barrel with a hex screw, and its 95 mm outer diameter fits the Mirage clamp exactly. Aluminum, lightweight, with the 2.5 mm hex key included.
The Tilta 80 mm Cinema adapter ring is made for cine lenses without a filter thread whose front measures 80 mm — smaller than what the Mirage matte box clamps onto. The ring brings the diameter up to 95 mm, so the Mirage goes onto the smaller cine lens just as it does onto a classic 95 mm one.
Clamps onto the lens, not into a thread
The ring slides over the 80 mm front of the cine lens and is tightened with the hex screw — it needs no thread, it holds by friction on the lens barrel. The Mirage matte box then goes onto its 95 mm outer diameter and is secured with the clamp as on any cine lens. The lens can stay fitted with the ring and the Mirage simply moves between lenses; the 2.5 mm hex key for tightening the ring is included.
Lightweight aluminum part of the Mirage range
The ring is aluminum alloy with a black finish and is light, so it puts no load on the matte box at the lens. It adds a variant for threadless cine lenses to the Mirage series of threaded adapter rings (52–95 mm): anyone with a set of compact cine lenses with an 80 mm front needs nothing else for the Mirage. The ring has no front filter thread — with the Mirage, filters go into the trays in the matte box.
The Tilta Mirage matte box
Mirage is a lightweight matte box for 95 mm circular filters: it mounts to the lens with an adapter ring matching the filter thread, filters sit in stackable trays and an optional wireless motor turns the VND module. The parts of the Mirage family combine — rings, trays, VND, 15 mm rod support and hood all belong to the same matte box, including this one.
